Sonos’ voice control is a voice assistant designed to offer an alternate way to easily control your Sonos smart speaker(s) by telling it what to play and how to play it; it aims to improve your audio experience so you can listen to music seamlessly while requesting your favourite songs from Sonos Radio, Apple Music, Amazon Music, Deezer, and Pandora.
The voice of Sonos' digital assistant was created in collaboration with Emmy-nominated actor Giancarlo Esposito. Esposito is best known for his roles in “Breaking Bad,” “Better Call Saul,” and “The Mandalorian.”
Sonos supports “Alexa” and “Google Assistant” with the option of alternating between “Hey Sonos” and “Alexa” voice commands just by using the different wake words.
How to Setup Sonos Voice Control
Setting up Sonos Voice Control is super easy with your Sonos Speaker. Just follow the steps below to set up Sonos Voice Control on your compatible Sonos speakers.
Open the Sonos app on your mobile device.
Click the Settings button.
At the top, click Add a Voice Assistant.
As an alternative, select "Add a Voice Assistant" from the menu under "Services & Voice."
Select Sonos Voice Control from the available choices.
Click "Get Started."
After agreeing to the terms of use, click "Proceed."
Choose the speaker you wish to add Sonos Voice Control to.
Update your speaker, if required.
Tap on "Continue.”
“Try it out” or “skip it.”
To add to other Sonos speakers that are compatible, touch "Done" or "Add to another room."
Sonos Voice Control processes everything locally on the speaker itself, so privacy is paramount as no audio command ever leaves your system for the cloud. With this feature, voice commands are also snappier and the user experience is smoother.
With Sonos voice control, you can command your speaker to adjust the volume, skip, replay, pause, and manage your music library, all while you’re on the go.
Now you can send sound all around your Sonos system without lifting a finger. Just ask to group and ungroup rooms, take the music with you, and play everywhere.
To activate Sonos Voice Control, you start by saying “Hey Sonos” and then you follow with your chosen command, for instance, volume control: “Hey Sonos, volume up!”
You can also specify where the command should be executed. “Hey Sonos, Play in the Kitchen instead"
